Honoring Zim

Rays 2011

Photo: I took this in 2011 during Spring Training. Can you spot Zim?

My condolences go out to the Zimmer family after the passing of Don. His contributions to my favorite game, the game of baseball, will always be admired and appreciated.

This past Opening Day I was fortunate enough to see Zim announced, for what we didn’t know then would be the last time, at Tropicana Field as he road around in a golf cart to greet the Rays players. For some reason, I felt that it was really important to record the starting lineup this year. I don’t know what told me to do it, but I’m really glad that I did. The video concludes as the golf cart carrying Zim runs out of the frame. Here is the video, because I’d love to share it with you.

Zim also served as the inspiration to my 2013 MLB Fan Cave video where part of my storyline included receiving the stuffed Zim Bear for Christmas. The bear would then talk to me and nobody else could hear him… urging me to enter the contest.

Thank you for the memories, Don Zimmer.

May you rest in peace, number 66, and may you always enjoy the greatest game on the Field of Dreams.
