I’m not a rebel. I’m following my heart.

I’m not a rebel. I’m following my heart.
April 1, 2015

Over the past few days, I have been fighting inside of my own mind with the perceptions that some people have.

We need to come to terms with the fact that we will always be judged.

Yeah, they teach us not to judge others when we are younger but it contradicts the behavior of adults, doesn’t it?

What got me started with these ugly thoughts was an internship that I inquired about… maybe a week-or-so ago. It was for sports blogging. The information said to send an email with questions to a specific person, so I did so. The reply back that I received said, “No.”

NO?! Well, why not? I haven’t gotten to supply my writing samples, nor had they spoken to me! How do they know that I would not be a fit for the position? Because my name insinuates that I’m a female?! Let’s forget the fact that I can explain to them what WHIP is or WAR. Let’s also ignore that I can talk about a teams minor league system just as well as their major league roster. But, I’m a girl. I can’t offer intellectual opinions or write meaningful pieces that other sports fans will enjoy.

Okay!

Leave behind the sports apps on my phone.

Ignore the same fanfare that I have–that’s equivalent to a man’s.

I couldn’t possibly understand.

While the majority of this post seems to center around my baseball comprehension, it does not discount other sports.

What I dislike more than anything is being told what I can and cannot do. Why do others get to dictate what I do with my life? I’m not in a quest to prove others wrong; I’m just looking to prove myself right.

I wish I could say that sports (including my experiences with pro-wrestling) were the only time that I felt suppressed. I hope that you do not buy in to the boundaries that others are trying to set for you either. This is just another roadblock that requires the engineering of courage to get around it. So, don’t ever let anyone tell you that you are incapable of whatever it is that you want. Take it!

“I am living my life, following my heart, doing what I want to do. I am not a rebel.” – unknown.
