National Go Red Day 2016

2016 Go Red
National Go Red Day 2016
February 5, 2016

I cannot begin to express all of the joy I felt today when I saw all of my friends and even strangers in public wearing red for National Go Red Day. I’ve participated in this day for more years than I can recall since heart health is extremely important to me.

Out of all of the years that I have participated, this was the first year that someone acknowledged that I was wearing the color and knew why. The lady smiled at me in passing and said, “I know why you’re wearing that.”

SUCCESS!!!

Each time we participate by wearing red, we are telling people that Heart Disease is a huge threat to everyone’s health and we have the power to do something about it. I know I say this jokingly to people, but in all seriousness: Heart Disease is 80% preventable. Those are fantastic odds. Why wouldn’t you want to help yourself? “Let the odds be ever in your favor!”

Aside from actually wearing the red, I enjoy passing facts along to anyone that will read this/listen to me. Again, informing one person at a time!

* American Heart Association reports that heart disease and stroke remain the two top killers, responsible for one-third of all deaths in the United States.

* Someone dies from heart disease every 84 seconds.

* Heart disease is the number 1 killer of women, taking more lives than all forms of cancer combined.

Risk Factors:
– High blood pressure
– Smoking
– High cholesterol
– Excessive alcohol use
– Obesity
– Poor diet
– Physical inactivity

As you can see, we each how the power to eliminate risk factors from our lives which essentially helps to decrease our individual odds of developing the disease. WE CAN DO THIS!!!

I had on a red dress, Little Red Dress scarf, heart earrings, red sparkly nails and a red rhinestone bracelet. 🙂

I want to thank all of my friends that snapped me a photo of them wearing red today. It means the world! They deserve so much credit for the creative ways some of them displayed their red. Shout out to Chad for spreading the word through the Medieval Times Insta and Facebook, Stephen for selling pins for the AHA, and Jamie for not only wearing red, but dedicating herself to even writing in red to get the point across to everyone at her place of employment today!!!
